English as a Second Language

51's ESL Program is implemented to support the linguistic, academic, and affective needs of Emergent Bilingual students (EBs). The ESL content-based program model is an English acquisition program that implements content-based language instructional methods in reading and language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. The goal of content-based ESL is for emergent bilingual students to attain full proficiency in English in order to participate equitably in school. Additionally, the NISD Newcomer ESL program model is designed to help acclimate recent immigrant Emergent Bilinguals (EBs) to their new country, new school, and new language within a safe, supportive environment.
